CONCERN: Preserving our beautiful downtown.
ACTION TAKEN: It has been a privilege to play an active role in the creation of the Downtown Oakville Heritage Conservation District. This will help preserve downtown, guide heritage conservation and manage future change. Public consultation on Council's comprehensive Downtown Plan strategies will continue this fall.
CONCERN: Lack of community facilities
ACTION TAKEN: A Community Centre will be constructed on the OT Memorial Hospital lands! In other parts of our community, new park facilities, equipment and trail ways have been built and more are being completed.
CONCERN: Preservation of the character of our community
ACTION TAKEN: Oakville Town Council - October 29, 2012 ˜Council may have the legal right to sell the Gairloch Gardens house, however, we certainly do not have the moral right". With this statement, I successfully led the fight in defeating the potential sale of the Gairloch Gardens house. I consistently advocate against inappropriate development proposals.
ACTION TAKEN: To address concerns over speeding, I championed a Radar Display pilot project in Ward 3. Based on positive results, this has been instituted throughout Oakville.
CONCERN: Property taxes
ACTION TAKEN: Representing tax payers' interests at Town Hall, during my first term on Council the overall property tax increase has been reduced to average less than 2% per year.
CONCERN: Need for increased community outreach
ACTION TAKEN: I remain involved with countless Oakville charities, programs and events. As Council's appointed representative to Oakville's Accessibility Advisory Committee, our Foster Guide Dog and I regularly meet with community groups and schools to discuss accessibility issues.
